Sun Lakes United Methodist Church hosts Tuesday Nights Together, a series of free summer programs in July and August at 6:30 p.m. in Lindsay Hall at Sun Lakes United Methodist Church, 9248 E. Riggs Road. Topics vary from light and entertaining to serious and informative. Everyone is welcome and there is no admission charge.

Topics for August:

Aug. 7: Christopher Columbus: Who Was He and Did He Really Discover America? – Join Tony Contrabasso, a well-known researcher and speaker in the Sun Lakes area, as he delivers his usual lively presentation on the life of Christopher Columbus, including talking about who he was and what he accomplished on his journeys to the New World. You will hear a different account of these voyages from what you read years ago in your grade-school geography book.

Aug. 14: Casa Grande National Monument: 650 Years of History as a Meeting Place and Landmark. – The story of the Casa Grande Ruins goes back further than written history and encompasses decades of change. The Casa Grande Ruins were established in 1892 by order of President Benjamin Harrison. It was the first prehistoric and cultural site to be established in the U.S. It formally was recognized as the Casa Grande Ruins National Monument in 1992 with 472 acres. Join the National Park rangers from Casa Grande and learn about this national treasure just a short 28-mile drive from Sun Lakes.

Aug. 21: Hymns We Used to Sing: An Old-Fashioned Sing-Along – Join the Rev. Jim and Martha Wood (and friends) for an old-fashioned hymn sing. This gathering will feature songs no longer in hymnals. Among the evening’s songfest are “Let the Lower Lights be Burning,” “Bringing in the Sheaves,” “God Lifted Me,” “Since Jesus Came into My Heart” and “I Will Sing the Wondrous Story,” and a surprise song to be taught to participants. You won’t want to miss this inspirational and fun evening.

Aug. 28: Bitcoin and Cryptocurrencies, the Latest News and Information – Don’t miss the most recent news about bitcoin and cryptocurrencies presented by Ron Sherman. Big changes are happening in commerce, banking, voting, real estate transactions, shipping, transportation and personal security. The technology behind cryptocurrencies has the potential to rewrite our entire society, just as the Internet did. Your children and grandchildren could be greatly impacted by these changes. Join us this evening to find out what these cryptocurrencies are, why we have them and how they will affect our future. For those who have heard an earlier session by Sherman, he will include updates that are up-to-the-moment information.
