The popular barre fitness trend has hit Chandler.

Barre3, a global network of studios and leader of the ballet barre fitness movement, opened its latest location last month at 4145 S. Gilbert Road, Suite 5.

To celebrate the opening of the Chandler business, owner Andrea Laughlin has been offering students’ first class for free throughout the first month.

Barre3 provides a full-body, mindful workout where students are led through sustained holds, muscle-burning micro-movements and heart-rate-raising cardio bursts.

The fitness trend is so named because in ballet training, the barre is the horizontal handrail dancers hold onto while warming up and working on their technique.

Barre-style workouts use classic ballet warmup exercises and expand them to a wider audience. The barre classes combine ballet, Pilates and yoga movements.

Time magazine called barre classes a phenomenon among fitness activities last year. The Valley has many barre studios, including Pure Barre, TenPoint5, The Bar Method and Sutra Studios.

Barre3 has expanded to more than 100 studios around the world with loyal students drawn to healthy, balanced living and intense workouts in studios, as well as in online videos.

The classes are designed to help people transform their bodies through a focus on grace, strength and whole-body wellness.

Founded by fitness and wellness expert Sadie Lincoln in 2008, barre3 includes one-inch isometric variations and fluid motions.

“In just nine years, barre3 has grown from a single studio in Portland, Oregon to over 130 locations, 300+ workouts streaming online and a growing cache of nourishing recipes,” said Lincoln, co-founder and CEO of barre3.

“Our mission is to teach people to be balanced in body and empowered from within, by making barre3 accessible to anyone, anywhere with studios across the US and abroad. Partnering with passionate entrepreneurs and health advocates like Andrea make this possible. We are thrilled to make barre3 Chandler a part of the family.”

Barre3 has several other studios in Arizona. Information: barre3.com.
