Something’s fishy in Chandler next weekend, but it’s all in good family fun. Parents and their children can grab some fishing poles and head out to Chandler’s five-acre lake at Veterans Oasis Park, 4050 E. Chandler Heights Road, from 8:30 a.m. until noon, Saturday, Feb. 9, for the 10th annual Urban Fishing Clinic and Outdoor Safety Event.

The free event includes instructors who will provide basic fishing tips and hands-on guidance.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department will even have bait and a limited number of fishing rods for loan on a first come, first served basis.

In addition, there will be free information, activities and crafts provided by the Environmental Education Center and demonstrations focused on outdoor safety provided by the Chandler Police and Fire departments.

The Fire Department will have a fire engine on display from 8:30-10:30 a.m. and Chandler Police will have a Motorist Assist Vehicle.

No fishing license is required during the clinic, but those wishing to fish must register at the Fish and Game Department booth. Anyone fishing outside of the clinic hours will require a license.

Visit azgfd.gov for information about fishing licenses and regulations. Fishing licenses and supplies are not available for purchase at the park.

The event is hosted by the EEC and co-sponsored by AZGFD. Inclement weather may cause the program to be altered or cancelled. Event updates will be posted on EEC’s Facebook page, facebook.com/ChandlerEEC, or call 480-782-2890.
