Police have arrested a COX employee who embezzled $68,000 in customers’ payments made in cash at the cable company’s store near Price Road and Chandler Boulevard.
Police said that Placido Vasquez of Phoenix committed the thefts between July 2018 and April 2020 by manipulating computer records showing they paid and taking the cash.
Police began their investigation two months after Vasquez left the company.
He told police he never thought he would get caught because he would just attribute any discrepancy in records to a typing error, according to court papers.
Vasquez has previous convictions for theft, trespassing and shoplifting, according to police records.
Police said he used the stolen funds for unspecified personal expenses.
Cox Communications has confirmed customers are not responsible for lack of payment based on Vasquez’s actions.
